GAL1 promoter

The GAL1 promoter is an upstream regulatory sequence of the GAL1 gene in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, controlling its expression in the galactose metabolism pathway. As a well-known inducible promoter, the activity of GAL1 is tightly regulated by sugar concentrations. It is repressed in the presence of glucose, but its activity is strongly upregulated when galactose is available and glucose is absent. This characteristic makes the GAL1 promoter widely used in synthetic biology for precise gene expression control, particularly in experiments requiring temporal or environmental sensitivity. Its strong inducibility and responsive nature make it a valuable tool for studying sugar metabolism regulation and developing gene expression systems.
